On December 8-9, 2020, the Public Health Institute in partnership with University Hospitals, Cleveland Ohio, one of the nation’s largest health systems, convened the National Opioid Leadership Summit (NOLS), to learn, share and collaborate with colleagues from across the country on real solutions to the opioid crisis that bridge criminal justice, health care, and public health sectors. Content was developed with the participation of government, academic, private sector and philanthropic organization leaders.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this important event was convened as a Virtual Experience. The National Opioid Leadership Summit was second in an on-going series providing the opportunity for thought leadership between sectors needing more effective collaboration to achieve the goal of reducing overdose deaths. This collaboration is critical to reduce duplication of effort, working at cross-purposes, and supports moving past the problems created when these three critical sectors unknowingly create gaps.

Public Health Institute (PHI) has been a leader in this arena, as bridging sectors is one of its foundational values. Founded on evidence-based practices, drawing from multiple fields and disciplines, PHI has been a leader providing inspiration and opportunity for cutting edge work that promotes the best opportunity for everyone to lead their healthiest lives.
